We are Community Bible Baptist Church–an independent Baptist church in Pinellas Park, Florida, that has a 21st century atmosphere with a commitment to 1st century Christianity. For over sixty years our heritage has been that of Bible preaching, sharing Christ, strengthening homes, and impacting lives across the region and around the world. While we enjoy a great past, we are more excited about the future and where the Lord is leading our ministry.

Community is a church with a rich heritage in Pinellas County. For over sixty years our heritage has been that of Bible preaching, sharing Christ, strengthening homes, and impacting lives across the region and around the world. While we enjoy a great past, we are more excited about the future and where the Lord is leading our ministry.

Ministry is not something we talk about here at Community; it is who we are. Ministry opportunities abound here at Community. Whether it is our Master Clubs program, Bus Ministry, the age-appropriate Sunday School classes, Bible studies for adults, music program, Christian education, world-wide missions program, nursery ministry, or senior adults ministry, we have a heart for it. The people of Community are not looking to be entertained each week but to serve God by serving others!

Each service at Community you will be uplifted by Christ-honoring music, challenged by relevant Bible preaching and teaching, encouraged by others who seek to follow Christ, and given an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to work in your life! I would like to invite you personally to join us as an honored guest for one of our services. We have a well-equipped nursery that utilizes a vibrating paging system to notify you if there is a need with your child. Our nursery is staffed with loving, well-trained ladies to give the best care possible to your children.

Our Story

Our true history dates back to Calvary–back to when Jesus died on the cross, rose again, and established His Church 2,000 years ago.  

But the most recent story of Community Bible Baptist Church can be said to start with the merger of Bible Baptist Church and Central Bible Church of St. Petersburg in 2006.

Arrival of Pastor Stancil

A few years later in 2009, we were blessed with the arrival of Senior Pastor John Brent Stancil along with his wife, Valarie, and their family.

10 Year Anniversary Celebration

Growth

In 2015, we were thrilled to send out Pastor Jonathan Redford to plant New Life Baptist Church in Largo, Florida.  Just two years later, in 2017, CBBC also purchased 4 acres of land on 6565 78th N in Pinellas Park, Florida.

This new space allowed us to maximize our space to run both a school and a daycare center.

The Jabez Project

In 2018, with New Shiloh Baptist joining our congregation, we knew that we needed to not only expand our worship space but that we needed to build a multi-use building so that we could better serve our community.  This began our journey to start “The Jabez Project”–a 26,000 square-foot auditorium and gymnasium.

In 2021, we dedicated our brand new Jabez Building to the Lord!  We can’t wait to see the wonderful things that God has in store for Community Bible Baptist Church and for the city where He has placed us to serve.

What We Believe
Dr. John W. Brent Stancil
Senior Pastor

Dr. John Walker (Brent) Stancil is a graduate of Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac, Michigan. After graduation, he served as an assistant to Dr. Tom Malone, Sr. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church also in Pontiac. He served three years in Michigan before accepting the call to Val Verde Baptist Church in July of 1997 until May of 2009. At that time, following God’s clear leading, he assumed the pastorate of Community Bible Baptist Church. Preacher, as he is known by his congregations, conducts revival meetings and Bible conferences across America as well as in several foreign countries. He is also a sought after youth and college preacher conducting Bible College and Christian school revivals throughout the year. We are confident that you will enjoy his relevant Bible preaching and teaching as well as his warm and caring personality. Pastor Stancil is married to the former Miss Valerie Ware and they have four sons, Quinn, Collin, Grant, Hutson and two daughters, Madeline and Maya. Pastor and Valerie are active medical foster parents and are using their influence to call other Christians into foster care and adoption.

Nick Guffey
Worship Pastor

Nick Guffey grew up in a Christian home, where they were very involved in church. He was a church staff kid all of his childhood. He graduated from Central Baptist High school, then attended Hyles-Anderson college. He was youth pastor and music director at New Shiloh Baptist church for 10 years. His family accepted the call to serve at CBBC in 2018 where he now serves as the Worship Pastor.

Clint Ammann is a 20 year veteran of Christian education with a variety of experience and credentials from across the country. He has a passion for instilling a Biblical worldview in his students, and a desire to see them use their gifts, talents, and abilities for the Lord.

Jim Gugino
Community School of the Bible, President

Jim Gugino was saved in 1984, he served the Lord in his local Baptist church in Rochester NY. In 2003, he began pastoring the church he was serving in for over 14 years. He has an earned Doctorate in Biblical Studies from Rock of Ages Theological Seminary. He is the president of the Community School of the Bible, out of Community Bible Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Brent Stancil.

Mike Austin
Outreach Director

As a fourth generation native Floridian, Pastor Mike Austin certainly understands why so many others have made the Sunshine State their new home. Reared with sand in his shoes and a fishing rod in his hand, he sees his home not only as a paradise to be enjoyed but also as a mission field to be harvested, of which he and his wife Susannah are a proven product. A personal visit from a friend was God’s call to salvation and soon thereafter to the ministry for both of them. The power of the Gospel transformed their lives and they have spent the past 39 years passing on the faith that was shared with them. Brother Austin served as a senior pastor for 20 years, and is now serving as an assistant pastor at Community and teaching at Community Christian Academy, where two of his seven grandchildren attend.

Nicole Worley
Church Secretary

Growing up in a military home, Nicole was raised in multiple locations around the country. She was led to the Lord by her AWANA teacher at the age 11. Her father was stationed in St. Petersburg, FL during her high school years, and Nicole attended the youth group at Community Bible Baptist Church. This is where she met her husband, Caleb Worley. They were married in June of 2013 and now have two beautiful daughters, Piper and Sophia. Over the years, Nicole has served together with her husband at Community together in the bus, sound, music, Reformers Unanimous, and teen ministry. Nicole serves as our church secretary.

Carolyn Petry
Administrative Assistant

Carolyn was born in Westminster, MD: She graduated from Westminster Senior High School in 1963. She was saved at home at the age of 15. Carolyn was a member of Church of the Open Door in Westminster, Maryland from March 1971 until moving to Florida in 2014. At Open Door, Carolyn was privileged to sit under the preaching of many good men of God including Dr. Shelton Smith and Dr. Norris Belcher. Carloyn sang in the Church of the Open Door Choir for 35+ years. Carolyn worked as a bookkeeper for Carroll Christian Academy for approximately 2 years. She has now been a member of Community Bible Baptist Church since September 2014. She sings in the CBBC choir and has been on staff since 2016. Upon graduating high school, Carolyn married Charles Petry. Charles & Carolyn were married for 54 years until his home going in June 2017. They have 3 children, Scott , Eric, and Kim, and one grandson, Christian. Upon moving to Florida, and until his death in 2017, Charles and Carolyn served together in the Chaplains Care Ministry where they saw many accept Jesus as savior. Carolyn currently serves as an Administrative Assistant in the church office.
